Member Requests
I'm in the middle of answering a bunch of SFBC member e-mails, and I thought it might be fun to list some of the things these members are asking for. (I may do this regularly, if I have enough mail and get a decent response here.)
Please feel free to chime in on any suggestions you think are particularly good...or particularly bad:
- the "Dumarest" series by E.C. Tubb
- posters of SFBC magazine covers
- a big hardcover book of SFBC art
- more "Forgotten Realms" books
- a single-volume "anthology" of all of Poul Anderson's van Rijn stories (don't those "stories" include at least half-a-dozen novels? how big would such a book be?)
- all of Glen Cook's old series, in omnibus form
- L. Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth series -- all ten volumes
What do you say -- are any of those good ideas?

I would probably be interested in a book of SFBC hardcover art; that sounds yummy!

I'd say the Dumarest books are highly overrated, and trying to collect them all would be far more effort than they deserve.
As to van Rijn, yes, there are a couple of novels, but they're short novels. In the old printings that I have, the strictly van Rijn ouvre totals about 850 pages: two novels (Satan's World and Mirkheim), one novella (The Man Who Counts), and six short stories (collected in Trader to the Stars and the Earth Book of Stormgate.) You could do it as a two-volume set: one for the novels and one for everything else.
There are more stories in the Technic League future history, but they don't all involve van Rijn directly.

I probably wouldn't buy any of them, and personally, I would not give $cientology any money.

I could go for the Glen Cook omnibus volumes. I know Night Shade is doing the Dread Empire books, but there are plenty of other series of his that have not yet been reprinted.
Please don't reprint the Hubbard garbage.

Wildside has already rereleased the first Dumarest book, and a collection of at least four others. The collection is listed on their site as "Volume 1", so I can only assume others will follow.

With regard to the L.Ron Hubbard series, there are SO many other worthwhile books you could print instead. Given that the SFBC can only offer so many at a time, please don't waste 10 on this series. I'd consider getting the Glen Cook omnibuses.
