Sci Fi Channel's Prezzie Picks
Continuing the orgy of year-end lists, SciFi.com has posted their "Holiday Gift Guide." I won't pick on them, since -- unlike several other people I could name -- they're not pretending that year is already over, but honestly presenting their list as a list of stuff they like SFF readers would like for {seasonal holiday of your choice} gifts.
The Skiffy Channel's list contains six novel-like objects:
- Philip K. Dick's story A Scanner Darkly, as published as a book
- The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril, which I had not previously seen anyone try to claim was SFF
- Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge
- Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, or possibly by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and, again, it's lucky they don't call this a "best of the year" list since it was published in 1989
- Hunters of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson
- Specials by Scott Westerfeld
It also contains three anthologies:
- the magisterial (and hugely entertaining) The Space Opera Renaissance, edited by David G. Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer
- the indispensible The Year's Best Science Fiction, Twenty-Third Annual Collection, edited by Gardner Dozois
- and the I-haven't-actually-seen-it-yet Feeling Very Strange: The Slipstream Anthology, edited by James Patrick Kelly and John Kessel
There's also a list of art books:
- John Picacio's Cover Story
- The Art of Ray Harryhausen
- and Jon Foster's r/evolution, which I don't think has actually been published yet
But wait! They're not done yet! To make it a baker's dozen, they also throw in the wonderful and disturbing James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon by Julie Phillips.

Comments
Amazon.com claims r/evolution came out 11-28; I'm looking forward to it! Cover Story's great. (I'm starting to buy art books....)
