Ron Moore to be Nebula Toastmaster
SFWA has announced that the Toastmaster for this year's Nebula Banquet will be Ron D. Moore, head writer and executive producer of the current Battlestar Galactica TV show (the one that doesn't make you clutch your head in pain when you watch it).
Connie Willis was the Toastmaster in 2006, Neil Gaiman in 2005, Neal Stephenson in 2004, Harry Harrison in 2003, Esther Friesner in 2002, Neil Gaiman again in 2001, and Scott Edelman in 2000: the position generally goes to a well-loved writer in the field who is also well-known for public speaking and humor. Moore seems to be a break from this tradition.
Two possibly unrelated facts:
- People are often unhappy when nominees, especially those from "Hollywood," do not show up to accept awards.
- Moore is also a Nebula nominee this year for his script "Unfinished Business."
As we say in New Jersey: I'm not sayin' anything, I'm just sayin'.
